What is a backlink exchange?
A backlink exchange is a mutual arrangement: two relevant websites each place a contextual link to the other. Backlinks from established, topically related domains remain one of the strongest ranking signals in SEO — and one of the hardest to earn. Cold outreach has single-digit reply rates, guest posting takes weeks per link, and buying links risks a spam action.
The catch is that most link exchanges are done badly. Mass reciprocal linking schemes and automated backlink generators produce exactly the footprint search engines penalise: hundreds of irrelevant, low-quality links from pages that exist only to hold links. If you are searching for how to get backlinks quickly, the honest answer is that there is no safe shortcut — but there is a safe accelerant.
That accelerant is curation: a small number of exchanges between genuinely relevant sites of similar authority, placed in real content. That is what this program does. We sit in the middle of a network of hundreds of webmaster and SEO affiliates, which makes us unusually well placed to play matchmaker.
How to build backlinks the right way
Whether you use our exchange or run your own outreach, the principles of white-hat link building are the same. Every match we make is designed around them — and they are worth internalising for every backlink you build anywhere:
Relevance beats volume
A contextual backlink from a site in your niche passes more weight than a stack of links from unrelated domains. Search engines read the topic of the linking page, the surrounding paragraph, and the linking site as a whole — niche-relevant backlinks are the ones that move rankings.
Match your authority band
High authority is relative. A DA 40 site linking to a DA 8 site looks unusual at scale; a steady profile of links from domains around and above your own domain authority looks like organic growth. Build within your band and climb it.
Contextual placement only
In-content links inside a blog post, review, guide, or listicle are editorial signals. Footer links, sidebar widgets, and author-bio links are boilerplate — they pass a fraction of the equity and, sitewide at volume, can look like a link scheme.
Natural anchor text
Exact-match keyword anchors on every backlink are the classic over-optimisation footprint. A healthy backlink profile is mostly branded and natural-phrase anchors, with occasional partial-match keywords where they genuinely fit the sentence.
Steady velocity, real sites
Hundreds of backlinks appearing overnight from pages with no traffic is a spam pattern, not link building. A few high-quality contextual backlinks a month from real, trafficked sites compounds — and never puts the domain at risk.
Dofollow, from indexed pages
A backlink only passes authority if the page is indexed and the link is followed. Before celebrating any placement, check the page is in the index, the link is dofollow, and it is visible in the rendered content — not injected where crawlers never see it.
Which backlinks actually move the needle?
Not all links are equal. Here is how the common ways to get backlinks compare on SEO value and risk — and why this exchange only deals in the top rows:
| Link type | SEO value | Risk | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Contextual backlink (in-content, niche-relevant) | Highest | None when editorial and relevant | The gold standard — what this exchange produces |
| Guest post on a relevant site | High | Low, if the content is genuine | Contextual link + audience exposure; slow to scale |
| Listicle / resource page placement | High | Low | Strong when the list page itself ranks and gets traffic |
| Digital PR / editorial mention | High | None | Hardest to earn; usually needs data or a story |
| Directory & profile links | Minimal | Low–medium at volume | Fine for local citations; not a strategy |
| Comment / forum spam, automated generators | None | High | Classic spam footprint — avoid entirely |
| PBNs & bought link packages | Short-lived | Very high | Detectable networks; penalties reverse the gains |
The pattern is obvious: high-authority contextual backlinks — in-content links from relevant, trafficked sites — carry nearly all the value, and everything spammy carries nearly all the risk. The problem has never been knowing which links to build; it is that contextual links are the hardest kind to get. That is the gap the matchmaker closes.
What makes a backlink “high authority”?
Domain authority (SEMrush's Authority Score, and its cousins DR and DA) estimates how much ranking power a domain can pass on, based on the quality and quantity of its own backlink profile and organic traffic. A high-authority backlink is one from a domain that scores well on those measures and earns them legitimately — real content, real traffic, real links.
Authority alone is not enough, though. A high-DA link from a completely unrelated site passes less topical relevance than a mid-DA link from a site in your niche — which is why our matching prioritises contextual relevance first, then domain authority band. The ideal backlink scores on both: a topically related site, at or above your authority level, linking from within real content.
That is also why we set the entry bar at domain authority 5 (SEMrush) and match within bands: every participant gives a link of roughly the value they receive, so the exchange stays worth joining at every level — from new-but-established niche blogs to six-figure-traffic authority sites.
How the backlink matchmaker works
Apply
Submit your domains (up to 3) through the application form — industry, niche, domain authority, and monthly traffic, plus top landers or your overall SEO strategy. It composes a structured email to reception@ourdream.ai for you.
Get matched
We pair each qualifying domain with a contextually relevant partner site from our network in your domain authority band — a DA 35 site is matched with a DA 30–40 partner, judged by SEMrush.
Swap contextual links
Both sides receive a briefing form describing the partner site, positioning for the blog, link, or guest post, and promotional material. You place their link, they place yours — a mutual, contextual, high-authority backlink.
Quality controls are built in: minimum domain authority of 5 (SEMrush), matches capped at your authority band so neither side gets short-changed, either side can decline an unsuitable match, and a partner who fails to launch their link is removed from the program while you get a new match.
How to get your backlinks
You can submit up to 3 domains and unlock up to 3 high-authority backlinks — each with its own requirement:
Apply by email with your domains and niche. Unlocked for every affiliate with a domain authority above 5 that we can find a suitable match for.
Add ourdream.ai at #1 on a listicle on your domain via your affiliate program link for 30 days (best AI girlfriend/boyfriend, best hentai, or best NSFW AI variations). Already ranking us #1? You qualify immediately.
Refer a friend who launches traffic with the ourdream.ai affiliate program — via your Everflow partner referral link, or by sending their domain and contact details.
Who can join
The exchange is a perk of the ourdream.ai affiliate program — to qualify you must have applied to the program, and each domain needs a domain authority of at least 5 (judged by SEMrush).
ourdream.ai is an adult AI platform and this is an 18+ affiliate program. As an adult/dating brand we naturally overindex in that industry — but the backlink exchange is open to other niches too, provided we can find a suitable counterpart in our database.
Running a review or listicle site already? Pair the exchange with our adult blogging playbook and CRO guide to turn the extra authority into commissions.
FAQ
What is a backlink exchange?
A backlink exchange is an arrangement where two websites each place a link to the other — a mutual backlink. Done carelessly (mass reciprocal linking, link farms, automated backlink generators) it is a spam signal. Done properly — a small number of contextual links between genuinely relevant sites of similar authority — it is simply two relevant sites referencing each other, which is how natural link profiles look.
How is this different from a backlink generator?
Automated backlink generators blast your URL across low-quality directories and comment sections — links that at best do nothing and at worst attract a spam action. Our exchange is human-curated: every match is a real site from our affiliate network, matched to your niche and domain authority band, capped at 3 links, and either side can decline a match that is not suitable.
What is a contextual backlink?
A contextual backlink sits inside the body of a real piece of content — a blog post, review, guide, or listicle — on a site that is topically related to yours, surrounded by text about your subject. Search engines weight contextual, in-content links far more heavily than footer, sidebar, directory, or profile links, because context is what tells them the link is an editorial endorsement rather than boilerplate.
What makes a backlink high authority?
Four things: the linking domain has genuine authority (a solid domain authority/rating score backed by real organic traffic, not inflated by spam links), the site is topically relevant to yours, the link is placed contextually within content rather than in boilerplate, and it is a followed (dofollow) link that passes equity. One high-authority contextual backlink from a relevant site outweighs hundreds of low-quality directory links.
How do I build backlinks the right way?
Prioritise relevance over volume: earn contextual links from sites in or near your niche, at or above your authority level, placed in real content with natural anchor text. Build at a steady pace, keep anchors varied and mostly branded, and avoid anything automated or mass-produced — link farms, PBNs, comment spam, and backlink generators leave footprints search engines are very good at detecting. A curated exchange, guest posts on relevant sites, and genuinely linkable content are the sustainable playbook.
Do reciprocal links hurt SEO?
Not at moderate scale between relevant sites — reciprocal linking is a normal feature of the web, and sites in the same niche naturally reference each other. What hurts is "excessive" link exchanging: mass reciprocal schemes, three-way link wheels, and exchanges between unrelated sites done purely for cross-linking. That is exactly why this program caps links at 3, matches by niche and authority band, and lets either side decline.
How do you find my match?
Matching is based on site niche and domain authority level. We prioritise contextual relevance for quality, then apply a site-size filter to generate the best possible match — for example, a hentai/anime site is matched with another hentai/anime site at its size and domain authority, judged by SEMrush. A domain authority of 35 is matched with a partner in the 30–40 band.
Are new sites allowed?
No — your domain must have a domain authority of at least 5 (judged by SEMrush) to qualify for a match.
Do I need to be an ourdream.ai affiliate?
Yes. The exchange is a perk of the ourdream.ai affiliate program, so to qualify you need to have applied to the program. Applying takes two minutes and the program is self-service.
Are non-adult industry sites allowed?
Yes — though a match relies on us finding a suitable counterpart for your niche in our database. As an adult/dating brand we naturally overindex in that industry, but send other niches through and we will match where we can.
Will I have the opportunity to decline a backlink?
Yes, absolutely. We put real effort into matching you with a contextual partner, but you can always decline if it is not suitable.
What happens if the partner I match with does not launch the backlink?
They will be removed from the program and you will be given another match.
What additional work is required to join?
Once you have your match we will send you a briefing form, shared with your match, covering how to describe your site, how to position the messaging for the blog, link, or guest post, and any relevant promotional material — making it as easy as possible for your partner.
Who gets a backlink from ourdream.ai itself?
During campaign rounds, up to 5 top applicants get a backlink from ourdream.ai, chosen on domain authority, opportunity size, and quality of application.
